HIKING

Hamerkop Trail 2 km

This scenic walk takes about one hour and follows a rocky route shaped by water. The potholes are comparable to Bourke’s Luck, especially impressive after rain. Along the way, hikers can view several fascinating Bushman painting sites.

Hamerkop Trail 4 km

An easy trail taking roughly two hours to complete, ideal for less experienced hikers and families. The route offers gentle terrain and beautiful views. A natural rock pool along the trail provides the perfect opportunity for a refreshing swim.

Gifboom Trail 9 km

This more strenuous trail takes approximately four hours to complete and rewards hikers with dramatic rock formations midway. Dense vegetation lines parts of the path, so wearing long trousers is recommended to protect legs from thorny bushes and scratches.

Bushman Trail 21 km

A full-day hike of about nine hours, excluding time at the Doring River. The route follows a deep watercourse resembling a smaller Fish River Canyon. Hikers descend into the valley, walk beside the river, swim, and pass several Bushman painting sites.

4X4 ROUTE

The 4×4 route on Gifberg will take some intermediate skill to get you through rocks, some ups and downs as well as sandy places. The 11 km long route will take you to the Doring river. Camping is permitted on the banks of the Doring River. It is advised that you arrange with the owner beforehand. The same route will get you back, but the scenery and magnificent view will give you a whole new perspective of the area.
